Make Space for Miracles
Letting go is truly an art, isn't it? As humans we get so attached to ideas and things… and people! Usually we do this in order to fill some sort of a void within ourselves. When we don't feel fulfilled, we tend to do things that might bring us pleasure in the short-term, but don’t seem to sustainably uplift us in the way we had hoped. And eventually it stops “working” altogether a sometimes alarming indication that it's time for a change. Letting go is about consciously (and constantly) rearranging our lives so that we can appreciate it more deeply.
My first hard lesson in letting go was many years ago when I quit drinking initially. At the time, I honestly couldn't fathom the idea of letting go of something that was such a part of my lifestyle. But the truth was that my behavior was leading me further and further down a very dark path. I had no choice but to surrender and take a chance on the unknown. It seemed so scary to let go, but my life improved dramatically from doing so. Looking back, I thank God that I had that tough lesson. It paved the way for future courageous acts.
Courage: the ability to do something that frightens one. Letting go sometimes takes a tremendous amount of the stuff. Since that #1 frightening experience in my life of getting sober, I've faced so much more fear, from heartbreak to public speaking to living in another country. These occurrences can feel incredibly uncomfortable in the midst of them, but every time I've walked through the fire, I've come out feeling more free.
The Universe has always has your back, even in the toughest of times, so why would it stop now? Reassess often: what can you release? What isn't serving your highest and best good?
Whether it's an addiction, that closet full of junk, the negative person who drains your energy, or the way you speak to your own self, what is it that you can clear away in order to create more space for new and awesome people, things, and opportunities to come into your life?
It might seem daunting to clear the clutter, but think of it this way - our lives are happening NOW, not yesterday and not tomorrow (yet). So how is it that you want to feel today? Do you want to keep doing that thing, going to that place, or hanging around that someone who weighs heavily on your spirit? Or do you want to feel lighter, inspired and energized? You have the power to make the choice! Freedom is always an instant choice.
